(280 hours)

SDHI’s training consists of 280 hours of hands-on classroom and lab work in a simulated work environment, as well s tours of hotels and restaurants. Training also includes study books, resume preparation, employment search and interview techniques, and job placement assistance.

Students receive Certification of Completion issued by the Hospitality Educational Institute, Lansing Michigan upon successfully completing and graduating the course.

Class descriptions

Front Office Operations #F AO1
This Workshop covers front office procedures that are standard for the Hotel Industry. Classroom and lab training include: Reservations, guests registration and check in, posting of guestroom and incidental charges, and guest check out paying by cash or credit card. Training also includes instructions on the night audit, up selling, and revenue management. This Workshop introduces students to front office technology, and prepares them for an entry level position in the front office at any hotel.

Private Branch Exchange (PBX) #PB02
Students are instructed in the use of switchboard equipment to screen and direct incoming calls, take messages, and assist with outgoing calls for hotel guests, and employees. Classes focus on developing communication skills including listening recording messages correctly, being courteous, and customer service.

Reservations #RE03
Instruct students on how to make and maintain reservation records for individuals or group either by computer or manually. Students learn the different methods of confirming reservations with guests i.e.; fax, e-mail, and postal services. Students become familiar and central reservation system, housing bureaus, and types of reservations including local or city wide conventions. Students learn about pre-registration activities for groups or VIP reservations.

Bell staff #BL04
This workshop introduces students to the duties and responsibilities of a bell person. Training includes effective communication Guest Security; courteous services, safe lifting and handling of luggage. Students are also instructed in safe driving habits.
Prerequisite: Excellent DMV Record

Concierge Services #CGOS
This Workshop teaches the student to act as the ambassador for the hotel. Students learn the concierge desk is the place to go for the “special requests” and staff has insight on the best of the best in the city, and the concierge must to be able to provide guests with information on local attractions, night life, and travel and transportation resources.

Food Service (Banquets) #BQ06
This workshop is designed to teach students the skills required to become proficient in serving food and beverages in banquets or restaurants settings. Students are taught the correct way to set tables, serve food and beverages, as well as the proper way to bus tables. Training focuses on Service, Safety, and Sanitation... Includes food handlers card.

Fine Dining #FDOS
This Workshop is designed for students to gain the knowledge and skills that ensure excellent service and guest’s satisfaction. In addition to the above, students learn about menu development, various serving styles and procedures for special events or cuisine.

Students receive Certification of Completion issued by the Hospitality Educational Institute, Lansing Michigan upon successfully completing and graduating the course.
