Our Mission is to assist industry employers with their staffing needs, diversify the workplace, and make viable employment opportunities available to qualified individuals.

At SDHI, the student is give the opportunity to increase their knowledge, upgrade their skills, learn self-discipline, grow in confidence, and develop a professional attitude. Our students have what it takes to meet the employer's expectations in the hospitality industry.

Our training consist of 280 hours of classroom, hands-on simulated work environment lab time, and tours of hotels and restaurants. Study books, counseling, and placement assistance is also included.


Customer Service - Students are taught from the first day of class that the hospitality industry is about Quality Customer Service. Hotels strive to provide a comfortable "home away from home" environment, and food establishments desire to provide quality food and service that will be a positive memory. We teach our students to exceed the customer's expectations.

Front Office Administration - This Workshop covers front office procedures that are standard for the Hotel Industry.  Classroom and lab training include: Reservations, guests registration and check in, posting of guestroom and incidental charges, and guest check out paying by cash or credit card. Training also includes instructions on the night audit, up selling, and revenue management.  This Workshop introduces students to front office technology, and prepares them for an entry level position in the front office at any hotel..

Private Branch Exchange (PBX) - Students are instructed how to use switchboard equipment to screen and direct incoming calls, take messages, and assist with outgoing calls for hotel guests, and employees. Classes focus on developing communication skills including listening recording messages correctly, being courteous, and customer service.

Reservations - Students are instructed on how to make as well as maintain reservation records for individuals or group, either by computer or manually. They also are familiarized with the different methods of confirming reservations with guests i.e.; fax, e-mail, and postal services. Students learn about central reservations system, housing bureaus, and the difference requirements for local and city wide conventions. Students are taught how to sell and up-sell while providing excellent customer service. 

Bell Staff - This workshop introduces students to the duties and responsibilities of a bell person. Training includes effective communication, guest security; courteous services, and the safe lifting and handling of luggage. Students are also instructed in safe driving habits. Prerequisite: Excellent DMV Record

Concierges - This workshop teaches the student to act as "ambassadors" for the hotel. Students learn that this position requires that the employee be able to provide guests with information on local attractions, night life, and travel and transportation resources. Students learn the concierge desk is the place to go for the “special requests” and the staff must have insight on the best of the best in the city.       

Banquet and Restaurant Service - This Workshop is designed to teach students the skills required to become excellent in serving food and beverages in banquets or restaurants settings.  Students are taught the correct way to set tables, serve food and beverages, as well as the proper way to bus tables. Training focuses on Service, Safety, and Sanitation. This Workshop prepares students for employment in restaurants; catered banquet events; room service. Course graduates receive a food handlers card.

Hotel Security Training - This Workshop prepares students to handle vital risk management. It includes the importance of communicating clearly,  guest and hotel asset protection, emergency management such as fire, medical and crowd control media relations, special event and VIP procedures,  and completion of reports. Students receive guard cards upon graduation. Prerequisite: No Criminal Background

Fine Dining - This Workshop is designed to teach students the skills that ensure diner's receive excellent service. Students also learn menu development; various service styles and procedures, knowledge on beverage service, dining and restaurant sanitation, safety, and health. This Workshop prepares students for employment in restaurants; catered events; and room service. Includes food handlers card.
